More about our venue:
The New Cultural Gathering Center
Completed in 2020, the new 11sqft Cultural Gathering Centre located at Métis Crossing is simply stunning. Sitting on 688-acres of land, comprised of river lot titles from the original Métis settlers to the region in the late 1800s, the Crossing is designed to engage and excite visitors through an exploration of Métis cultural experiences. The new Cultural Gathering Centre does just that!
Designed by Métis Architect Tiffany Shaw-Collinge from Manasc Isaac Architects. The new centre incorporates traditional craftsmanship with modern materials to create a stunning structure that hints at the building style of the fur trade era river lot homes with the functionality of a contemporary place to gather, learn, and share the Métis story.
This is an incredible state of the art facility built in honour of the Métis people and designed by an incredible Métis individual!
The Lodge at Métis Crossing
Relaxing and reconnecting on the banks of history – The Lodge at Métis Crossing is a 40-room, boutique luxury lodge, located on historical Métis river lots. Overlooking the North Saskatchewan River, guests to the lodge will inevitably find themselves summoned by a sense of nostalgia and wonder about what came before.
Looking out across the horizon from your in-room patio, you can’t help but be curious about the ancestors who discovered this place, paddling along that river as early fur traders. What must it have been like? You will find yourself imagining the squeak of the red river carts along Victoria Trail as the Métis move further west ahead of the European settlers. Finally, you will see images in your mind of their excitement as they arrive at this place where you now stand on the banks of history. The Lodge at Métis Crossing was designed and built to honour the adventurous, entrepreneurial, and resilient spirit of our Métis ancestors.
Guests have their choice of five unique room configurations, providing visitors of the Lodge at Métis Crossing the opportunity to select the room that is right for them. Choose from an executive suite, King suites, two twin-bed Suites, accessible suites, or our family suites. Learn more about the Lodge here: https://thelodgeatmetiscrossing.com/
Vision, Hopes, and Dreams, Wildlife Park
Metis Crossing has welcomed the return of heritage species to the Crossing! The Visions, Hopes and Dreams at Métis Crossing Wildlife Park welcomed the return of Woods Bison, Plains Bison, White Bison, Elk, White Elk, and Percheron horses to the traditional Métis Lands at Métis Crossing. The bison, or “bufloo” in Michif, the language of the Métis, last roamed these hills in and around 1865. We have re-introduced these majestic beasts to their natural habitat.
The historical relationship between the Métis people and bison stems from the bison hunt that brought thousands of Métis people together each spring and fall. Through the gathering of these large communities, the Métis Nation took shape with the development of their own laws, democratic, and judicial systems.
Visitors to Métis Crossing will have the opportunity to experience the majesty of these animals through interpretive programming and tours.
Métis Crossing: A year-round Destination
Métis Crossing is committed to sharing the distinct Indigenous story of the Métis people through experiential and hands-on learning. In 2021-2022 Métis Crossing became a year round destination offering the newly established Visions, Hopes, and Dreams at Métis Crossing Wildlife Park, new cross-country ski trails weaving amongst the traditional landscape, horse-drawn sleigh rides, snow-tubing, snowshoeing, and outdoor skating.
The above-mentioned winter activities compliment a variety of spring, summer, and fall experiences available at Métis Crossing.
