Bobbi Jo Starr

Bobbi-Jo is an Indigenous singer songwriter who uses music to spiritually connect with her audience and raise awareness about water, the need for environmental protection, and social issues about addiction in her community.

Bobbi-Jo grew up performing on community stages in and around Edmonton since she was 18 years old however song writing never took precedent until after her recent recovery from drugs, alcohol and homelessness.

“It wasn’t until I started focusing on my recovery, did I finally understand where I stood on issues important to me. Now the lyrics are just pouring out of me, and I just have so much to say.”

Bobbi-Jo is currently underway creating content towards her first Album and has just completed a residency at Banff Centre for the Arts and Creativity.

“Self-expression and creativity is important in my recovery.”

“Addiction led me down a dark path and I had to focus all of my energy to bring myself into the light.” Says Bobbi-Jo. “My addiction affected everyone around me, I’m going to make sure, my recovery does the same.”

Originally from Peerless Trout First Nation, she currently resides and works out of Edmonton, Alberta.

Bobbi-Jo credits her father, Robert Chalifoux, Valleyview, Alta, for making music a focal point in her life growing up.

Bobbi-Jo’s musical influences include Indigenous rights activist, John Trudeau, Buffy St. Marie, Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline.

This is Bobbi-Jo’s personal contribution towards the “Truth and Reconciliation” movement.
