I am a 20 year crochet artist apart of Bigstone Cree Nation in northern Alberta looking to broaden my audience and awareness as a creator. My goal as a fiber artist is to be as inclusive, original, and creative as I can be with every piece that I create and being a part of organizations, such as this one, that will allow me to learn and grow is ideal for myself and my small business. I have only been crocheting for 2 years, but it has become an important and special part of my day, allowing me to tap into my creative side and let my skills flourish. One of most rewarding parts of crocheting is seeing the joy on people’s face when they have a special hand-crafted piece to take home knowing – and appreciating – the effort and time that went into it. Although it’s a stretch to call what I do a “small business”, as I’m not often a part of markets and don’t sell on any platform, I believe that after the 2 years of effort I have put into crochet, it is time to attempt to take it a step further and be able to call what I do a small business.
