Kookum Charlene Tootoosis of Sakihitowin Bannock and Crafts
Charlene is a Indigenous Designer with a special gift for Pow Wow Regalia. She is a CREE Language Knowledge holder and Fluent Speaker who has made it her goal to share her language, art, traditional skill and vibrant culture with the entire world.
Charlene is the mother of 5 and Grandmother to 5 (very soon to be 6). Almost her entire family are Pow Wow Dancers, and actively take part in sharing the teaching Charlene has so lovingly passed down to them.

I am a Cree woman from Driftpile Cree Nation and now lives in Edmonton. I have been beading now for 7 years and every year i learn more and more. Beading is meditating and relaxing and for that it has been very important to my mental health. To me ‘beading is life, beading is happiness, beading is my spirit’. I teach beading as well for the past 7 years and love the knowledge i can give plus I receive new knowledge from students. Its very gratifying. To all that has admired and bought my creations… hiy hiyI first was given a loom and cookie tin of beads in my early 20s. My auntie taught me how to loom. But that fizzled out and in my late 30s i went to a beading class and that was it… i was hooked. From then on i was taught many different techniques and also self taught myself beading techniques.
